Barcombe

CommuniHeat will enable the people of Barcombe to become the first ever rural community to simulate how they could take real ownership of energy, switch to low-carbon heating, develop much greater resilience and provide the model for other rural communities to follow.

A Pilot Project for the Future

In the journey towards net zero carbon emissions by 2050, villages off the gas grid need to be prepared and supported to come off fossil fuels. CommuniHeat is a groundbreaking project which will help us understand how to develop the approach needed by communities to ensure a seamless and affordable transition using low carbon heating.

We have to change the way we heat our homes over the next ten years and it’s vital we all understand the pros and cons of a planned transition to low-carbon heating versus the unplanned approach by individuals. A planned approach has the potential to remove many barriers whilst ensuring comfort and reducing costs to the bill payer.

There are many aspects to consider – how to select the right technologies, how to ensure our homes can be heated affordably, how to maintain reliable and resilient electricity infrastructure. There Is also the potential for many additional benefits Including community ownership of local energy and new ways to pay, reduced energy bills and even be paid (!) for the energy we use.

Local ownership, resilience and a model for rural communities

CommuniHeat will enable you the people of Barcombe to become the first ever rural community to simulate how they you could take real ownership of their your energy, switch to low-carbon heating, develop much greater resilience and provide the model for other rural communities to follow.

The Detail

We need to understand how much energy is used by just 200 homes to be able to create the roadmap for Barcombe and other communities to transition to low-carbon heating.

All we are asking is for you to allow us to survey your home for free, and we’ll give you up to £50 to spend in Barcombe as a thank you.

If you live in Barcombe, get involved by taking part in one of our energy surveys.

Register your interests for the survey of your choice below. Depending on which one you choose, we’ll also give you a voucher to spend in the community.

The real data we collect from Barcombe will be fed into modelling exercises which look at electricity network infrastructure requirements, local energy generation, viable heating options and ways to finance a low-carbon heating solution for all. This data shared with partners will be anonymised and be fully compliant with GDPR.

The Project will be employing four local Energy Champions who will do the surveys and be there to answer your questions. The team at Ovesco will of course be available too to support you.
